Choosing bathroom taps for your home- Helpful Tips & Advice

Choosing bathroom taps, or any other taps for your home can be tricky to say the least! I have built two houses and am no considering a third self build. But compared to 15 years ago, I am surrounded by so many choices and styles. My research is summarised below:TAP DESIGN:

Operationally, Tap design consists of three variables:

    • The number of holes that need to be in the washbasin/bath/bidet or wall.

    • The number of valves directing the flow of water.

    • The number of faucets( spouts) from which water flows.( ie, single or mixer)

When choosing your taps, you will need to bear in mind the environment/location where the taps will be installed, and the décor/ambiance required in each room.

TAP STYLES AND FINISHES

As mentioned previously, we are spoiled for choice, as there is an array of contemporary taps, modern taps (classic), and designer taps, and traditional taps. As well as the design we then often have a choice of colour. Various finishes are available, that are enamelled or metal plated. Most taps are made from brass, enabling a good quality finish to be applied. A number of finishes available in matt or high gloss including chrome polished brass, silk steel, nickel and antique gold. Technology has enabled cheap bath taps to be available at reasonable quality.

The top end of the market designs are made from solid stainless steel, with either a high polished shine or alternatively brushed to create a low sheen finish. The benefit of these is that as a result of being manufactured in stainless steel, they are much harder wearing than their cheaper alternatives, and will also maintain their polish/sheen for much longer.

The problem in making a good choice is the balance between budget and desire! A low budget can drive you toward choosing a poorer quality product, resulting in the plated finish wearing out sooner rather than later. Stay in the property for any length of time? Are you choosing and fitting cheap bath taps to a rental property? So do you plan to these are important decisions.

IS THERE ENOUGH WATER PRESSURE FOR YOUR BATHROOM TAPS?

There is nothing worse than not having enough pressure to delivery the correct flow of water, to your bath taps, and especially to the shower. So before choosing your tap, you need to establish what level of pressure that you have in your bathroom. The reason for this is that many bath taps require high pressure to operate correctly.

At what pressure is the water delivered to your bathroom? The rising mains pressure is usually around 2.0 bars, which is satisfactory, but it is unlikely that this is supplied direct. So you must ensure that your water pressure for both hot and cold taps is above 1.0 bar if you choose and install high pressure taps. If your water pressure is below this, then you have to choose a low pressure tap to operate properly.

Now the hot water from your heating system (boiler) should be at high pressure if you have one of the following:

    •  A combination boiler that is supplied by mains water and heats the hot water as you use it.

    •  A gravity fed system with a pump that increases water pressure to more than 1.0 bar

    •  A pressurised (unvented) heating system, where the mains cold water directly supplies all cold taps but also feeds direct to the hot water cylinder, thereby maintaining high pressure.

A general guide line is that single lever mixer taps require high pressure, whereas pillar taps and two handled taps that control water flow (fillers), can operate on low pressure. If in any doubt about your water pressure levels, either contact your boiler service engineer, or discuss it with a proprietary 'taps' supplier. You can find them locally or use Google to search on the internet.Whether you are looking for modern taps, designer taps, or cheap bath taps, check out locally what is available, but its is then worth looking on the internet for suppliers who may offer a much more competitive price. Saving Money by Cutting Down Your Electricity Cost- Owl CM130 Energy Monitor

Everyone is looking to save money on their utility bills. One way is to buy a wireless energy monitor that allows you to identify the amount of electricity consumed so you can decide if you want to take corrective action to reduce usage and save money. Depending on which energy monitor you buy, you (like me) could save at least 25% on energy bills.

Read On........

For most of us, we have accepted that utility costs are on the increase, particularly electricity. One-half of American households will spend 20 % of their after-tax income on energy costs this year, according to a study released today by the American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity. The average household electric bill has increased from $938 in 2001 to a projected $1,368 in 2011, representing 17% of the $2,562 average household energy cost increase since 2001.

According to Moneysupermarket a quarter of UK consumers are struggling to stay afloat due to the high cost of living with one in five admitted in the survey that bills such as heating were placing the biggest strain on their household finances.

What can we do to reduce our electricity costs?

Get an accurate Regular Bill:

Most electricity suppliers provide quarterly bills in arrears, which is not helpful in managing your consumption of electricity.

It is more beneficial to have monthly bills, especially during the winter, as you don’t have a big surprise that over reaches your budget. Also make use of the opportunity to read your meter readings & notify the power company as soon as possible. This keeps an accurate record ensuring that your bills are accurate Companies like Telecom plus (Utility Warehouse) provide both of these.

If you don’t have the ability to go monthly, and then make sure that you have monthly direct debits set up, so you spread your payments over the 12month period.

Stop using Standby for Electrical equipment:

Equipment manufacturers for TVs, sound systems and other electrical items have made us very lazy by adding the standby button. But when you switch over your TV to standby when you go to bed, your TV will continue to use more less the same electricity!

So make a habit of switching the power off. Or if you want to continue to be lazy, buy a remote control mains wireless plug socket set. This allows you at one press of a button to switch of the TV & sound system.

Measure & Identify the Energy Consumption:

Most of us have little idea as to which electrical items consume the most electricity. If we knew we would be surprised. So why not invest in something that can measure your power consumption of various equipment, enabling you to take action.

Purchasing an energy monitor enables you to check on your electricity consumption and some can even calculate the cost per hour.

Electricity monitor (same as energy monitor) is wireless and simple to install and start for around £20. If you want something that delivers more information, you can pay up to£45-50.

However, it is likely that the investment in a cheap energy monitor is likely to be recovered fairly quickly, once you have identified high usage items, such as high wattage spotlights.

There UK consumer magazine WHICH completed tests on energy monitors so having reviewed it, I purchased a basic wireless energy monitor theOWL MICRO CM 130 from www.energymonitorworld.com which was a good thing to start with, and the price around £22 seemed reasonable. As a result I have made huge savings on my bill which is fantastic.

So if you are looking to reduce your electricity bills in the future, you first of all need to find out what uses the most power, so you have a choice to take some form of action. With the likelihood of utility prices continuing to go up, it will be worth putting yourself in control by purchasing a suitable energy monitor as this has to pay off in the long run. I reduced my electricity usage costs by over 25%! Now that should continue over the next few years, giving me some substantial savings.

Choosing A Reliable Electrical Appliance Repair Service

Today, our homes depend on electrical appliances so much. Dishwashers , Electric ovens and fan ovens, Electric cookers, Electric hobs, Tumble dryers & Fridge freezers are some of the appliances that we rely on.

The last thing you want to be dealing with is appliance repairs. But what do we do when one of them goes wrong. Well, firstly you can check your paperwork to see what guarantee may still be available. This of course depends on when you purchased it, and how long was the guarantee.

I personally, never pay for these additional 3 & 5 year warranties, as they are not good value for money.

But if they are still within the required period, you may feel better, but also check to see if the potential problem that you have is covered by the garmented. A telephone call should confirm this, if you are unsure. Hopefully, it is within the time period and covered for the problem. All you then need to be concerned about is there speed at which they can respond!

Assuming that you are outside of the guarantee period,   you then have a few options:

a) Fix it yourself. Generally this is not a good option, particularly with some dishwasher repairs there is the ‘health & safety’; issue to consider, and also, you could mess it up, and create bigger problem( and cost), when a professional has to be called in!

b) Ask a friend. If you are fortunate to have a friend who is skilled in your particular appliance, and make, this is a possibility. However, there is risk to this, not only to your appliance but also to your friendship.

c) Find a qualified repair technician. Although you may consider this the costliest option, it may be the best in the end.

You can find a technician by:

1. Asking friends & family (this is good, as you will have some idea as to their reputation

2. Search online using the search engines. You can look on the search engines like Google, for ‘dishwasher repairs Leeds’, and see what companies or individuals details appear. However, you need to check carefully, to ensure this is not a ‘cowboy’ operation.

3. Search Online using yell.com. Yell.com does tend to have a good selection of service engineers, and located geographically.

4. Check out Yellow Page.  This may be used if you have no access to the internet, so would provide you with some details. although more and more companies are moving away form yellow pages to the internet.

5. Check out Local papers & free papers.  Local papers can till run advertisements of local trade companies, as well as the ‘free ‘papers.

Having located at least three to go on your list, find out the following:

Do you have a call out fee?

If a repair is required, how do you charge? Ie, is it a fixed fee or an hourly rate (if, so whets the hourly rate)

What qualifications and training would   the technician have that will visit?

Do they regularly service the particular brand and appliance that you have?

How long will it take for them to visit you, should you tell them to proceed?

Will they provide you with an official receipt?

If you are stuck for what to do there is a very reliable company who offer a great service with appliance repairs and they are based in Wakefield and Leeds.

Is paying for dental care a waste of money?

Dental Pain Control

There is nothing worse than to experience dental pain and
having to take a trip to the dentists. But finding a solution
is dependant on identifying the factors that cause the pain.

It is important to bear in mind the age, whether pregnant, or a nursing mother along with other possible dental conditions. Also allergies, such as
asthma, have to be considered.

In the vast majority of cases, dental pain can be controlled in the short term by the use of paracetamol, aspirin & ibuprofen. These can be
obtained without the need of a prescription, and are ready available for most shops. Only a small number of dental pain cases require a visit to your
general practitioner, or dentist for some much needed dental care.

Crooked teeth

Crooked teeth are straightened by the use of special devices and techniques [orthodontics]. An orthodontist is a dentist who has been specially trained
to use a selection of braces (orthodontic appliances), both fixed and removable, to improve the appearance and health of the teeth and gums.

Ulcers of the Mouth

An ulcer is any breakdown of the lining of the mouth, which includes the cheeks, tongue, gums, lips and roof of the mouth. The raw area of an ulcer is
often very sensitive and painful.

Some ulcers appear as single ulcers; some ulcers arrive in groups. Some heal quickly leaving no mark behind, and some heal leaving a scar that may be
noticeable for some time. Some ulcers appear and then disappear never to return, others may keep coming back again and again.

A single ulcer, which is not healing and which has been present for more than 10 days should be looked at by your dentist. If there is no good reason
for the ulcer not healing, it should be investigated further to exclude a possible cancer. Most ulcers however are not malignant and can be explained
after the dentist has asked about different features of the ulcer.

A dentist can look at the ulcers about which there are worries. If the dentist feels it is appropriate, they may refer to a hospital specialist, such
as a consultant in Oral Medicine, for further investigation and/or treatment.

Teetth Whitening and Bleaching

Tooth discolouration can be a result of either extrinsic (surface stain) or intrinsic (internal stain) factors. As a general rule our teeth become
darker as we become older - it is part of the normal ageing process. The deciduous or milk teeth have a much whiter appearance than their permanent
successors. Many people would prefer their teeth to be whiter and so look at various teeth whitening and bleaching options.

Regular visits to the dentist or hygienist and proper tooth brushing are all an essential part of maintaining good oral hygiene, a healthy mouth and
clean teeth.

Bleaching is the use of chemical agents to produce an oxidation of the discolouring molecules within the tooth. It is not a temporary process. A
dentist using chemical agents can also remove superficial stains such as tobacco, tea and coffee.

So it pays to take time and effort to care for your teeth. Leave too late and it will be ‘too late’!

How To Make Sure Your Staff Get The Best Sales Training Possible

There are many factors that collaborate to make a successful company: a happy and fulfilled workforce, good working relationships and a strong team
ethos. These are among many features that are often portrayed as having major benefits, yet all these wonderful attributes are a complete waste of time
if a business is losing money due to poor sales strategies.

Sales training
could be just the boost your staff need to empower them in the marketplace. Using powerful selling skills to engage customers is nothing new, but
businesses looking for performance enhancing instruction need to ensure that the sales training course they choose for their staff are both relevant and
professional.

Is the provider flexible enough to accommodate your operation?

A good training provider will perform an initial assessment of your team. It's often the case that sales representatives come ready armed with great
techniques that just require some form of refinement. Just a nudge here or there in the right direction can, at times, be all it takes to transform a
good sales person into an outstanding one. Groups and individuals respond differently to various teaching methods and trainees usually respond better
when the activities are made fun and accessible. Interaction and participation helps people to grasp ideas; information that is often lost when the
same points are presented by means of a dull lecture or seminar.

Is the provider London based?

Will that be a problem? If so, ensure the training company is willing to meet you at your own place of business. A worthy training provider will
clearly understand the importance of in-house practicalities and should be more than happy to work around you. A sales training London based company should have no issues with delivering their services to
wider locations as required by the customer.

Does the company specialise in different areas of selling?

Most sales pitches are delivered in three ways: either by face to face contact, telephone communication, or by means of an exhibition like the ones
held at large venues up and down the country. It is important that any training undertaken by your staff is tailored to the specific needs of your
organisation and also takes into account the actual product or service you are selling.

Is Telesales Training covered?

Quite often sales are generated through the medium of the telephone. Since the emergence of selling in this way, telesales training has become a must have element in any serious course
portfolio. You don't have to be an expert in telesales to know how annoying it is when you pick up the phone only to be greeted by a cold caller who is
obviously working from a well rehearsed script.

A person skilled in the area of telephone selling, however, will modify their approach to suit each individual customer throughout the duration of the
call. This concept will almost certainly have been introduced to the salesperson on a previous course. The area(s) usually addressed in telesales
training are:

  • Call introduction

  • Overcoming the initial response

  • How to question effectively

  • Overcoming obstacles

  • Landing the sale

Always choose a company that is experienced enough to teach selling skills to engage customers. Check how long the company has been operating and,
above all, verify that the staff themselves have genuine experience of selling products in the real world.

Floor Coatings: An Ideal solution Covering a Range of Flooring Needs - Advanced Polymerics

http://www.advancedpolymerics.co.uk/
Advanced Polymerics was born out of the desire to be “Better Than The Rest” - that’s why our dynamic approach to developing, manufacturing and delivering resin flooring and coating solutions, is second to none.

We are constantly refining our methods and materials to ensure you get a flooring and coating solution that is truly unsurpassable.

Whether you are looking for a self-leveling floor screed, a seamless resin floor, a quick-setting waterproof membrane or a simple effective repair solution - our commitment to manufacturing the very best solution for every application means you are guaranteed a finish that more than exceeds your expectations.

Floor Coatings: An Ideal solution Covering a Range of Flooring Needs - Advanced Polymerics

Whatever type of environment you operate in; there are few areas that would not benefit from the application of

resin flooring

. A well laid resin floor has many practical uses and will always improve the look and feel of any type of space or work area.

Manufacturing and Industry

As well as creating a pleasant environment, resin floors represent an ideal solution for the Oil and Gas, Petrochemical and Power Generation
industries. Here, resins are formulated specifically with these users in mind, and floor treatments are designed to be easy to clean, tough and
durable. Manufacturing facilities are exposed to the most hostile of conditions where flooring needs to withstand high impact loads as well as the most
corrosive and aggressive of chemicals. Suitably adapted resin flooring has the ability to stand up to the most demanding of conditions and will easily
resist deterioration.

Food, healthcare and pharmaceutical

In areas such as these it is crucial that hygienically clean and spotless floor spaces are maintained. Resin coated floorings are seamless and, unlike conventionally tiled floors, do not
allow bacteria to find a way into the surrounding gaps. Another beneficial feature of resin flooring is its ability to withstand cracking and
scratches. Environmental Health Workers always look for such defects and costly repairs are usually required. Advanced Polymeric flooring, however,
eliminates problems caused by cracking and can be laid quickly with little disruption to business activities. A distinct advantage with resin flooring
is that it can be laid straight on to concrete or metal surfaces and is frequently self levelling.

Retail, home and office

Resin flooring has exceptional versatility: as well as offering an extremely hard wearing and scratch resistant floor surface, the option is available
to integrate features such as company logos and original colour schemes. Say goodbye to the cold and clinical flooring solutions of the past; today’s
advanced resin formulas mean you have the opportunity to build a design scheme of your own choice in which you can incorporate different colour schemes
and patterns.

Here are just a few resin floor possibilities:

  • Reception areas

  • Corridors

  • Cafeterias

  • Clothes stores

  • Supermarkets

  • Warehouses

  • Interior rooms

  • Workshops

  • Play areas

Many resin coating solutions nowadays allow you to choose from a range of glossy or
sparkling finishes. All these available options mean that resin flooring is increasingly becoming the obvious choice for domestic projects. Apart from
being ideal for external buildings such as garages and workshops, resin flooring has now become a realistic prospect for luxury interior home flooring.

With more great colour schemes becoming available, along with choice of finish and decorative patterns, the best resin floor manufacturers are now
offering their customers a world of fresh, stylish and exciting new flooring opportunities.

Whatever your industry, whatever your need, Advanced Polymerics have a flooring,
coating and roofing solution that will more than exceed your expectations.
