When a person loses their mobility, it presents a challenge. One consideration is whether it is necessary to move home, as the effort to use the staircase is too much.
You can however, consider the installation of a stairlift. For one, it avoids the need to move to bungalows as they can live in the same house they were living before.
There has been reduced cases of accidents resulting from falls that are characteristic of old people, and this can be attributed to these lift types. Elderly people may be able to walk comfortably in and around homes, but having to move to different floors presents serious health risks to octogenarians. These lifts are fitted with devices to improve their safety levels, which has also curbed these accidents.
Other options available are quite costly and inconvenient. The first one is to do with having to relocate to bungalows, which can be disruptive to lives, and also mean that one has to leave their friends and family behind, and settle among new people. In terms of costs, the expenses involved can be very high.
Movement is associated with its own costs. For starters, you will need to pay the fees for agent, purchase new furniture and you could find that these costs are way in excess of ten thousand pounds. Naturally, there is need to look at the second alternative.
The second alternative for aged persons would be to have their homes adapted. When this happens, the aged person is permanently restricted to the ground floor, which may mean addition of some rooms like a bathroom or a bedroom to make the room self-sufficient. As you can clearly see, this is not just expensive and disruptive; it also consumes other space which was previously used by other members of the family.
The main benefit of a stairlift being installed is that it avoids the need to move house, and therefore could save you a great deal of money.
